Two significant things happened to my life in the year 2000 – I moved to Aix en Provence and fell in love with the beauty and people in the South of France, and ASOS was founded and started online – both have cost me a lot of money in the following years! Yes, ASOS, or As Seen On Screen as it was know then, is celebrating its 10th anniversary later this year – and what a successful 10 years it has been for them!
ASOS is now the UK’s largest online-only fashion & beauty store, with sales of £165million for FY2009. It has over 2.2 million registered users from all over the world and offers approximately 20,000 fashion goods for sale online. It has won a long list of awards and most recently was named Cosmopolitan magazine Online Retailer of the Year 2010.
One of the reasons I love ASOS is because it genuinely listens to the customers. It even has a whole section on the website dedicated to ideas and suggestions. Last year many of the requests came from Ireland, where it is widely popular, and centered around delivery prices and costs. ASOS recently responded to the Irish customers and not only dropped shipping costs, but also introduced reduced rate express shipping, new payment methods such as PayPal and Laser, and set up a returns facility in Athlone making it cheaper to return goods should you need to.
ASOS life is another great section of the site where users, members of the community, ASOS staff and contributors have set up their own blogs and groups. The forums are also very popular as are the pictures posted of what people are wearing on any given day – great for inspiration! An upcoming addition to the site is due in late 2010, which will offer a new dimension to the business – ASOS Marketplace will allow customers sell their own clothes and accessories on a dedicated part of the site, making ASOS possibly the most innovative online e-tailer in Europe.
Happy Birthday ASOS!
