Passion Pit & Ellie Goulding, wow

Was lucky enough to get my hands on some tickets to Passion Pit in the Olympia on Saturday. I love PP, and nearly cried last November when I realised my bday party was clashing with their gig in the Academy then. But Saturday night more than made up for that loss – especially when I realised the exceptionally talented Ellie Goulding was the support act!!

Ellie Goulding has been playing on my iPod for the last month pretty much non-stop. I love her unique voice and sound, and she writes some beautiful lyrics. I also think shes genius when it comes to covers (Robyn’s Be Mine is a particular favourite). And she didnt disappoint live, even if the crowd didn’t seem to know much of her stuff. Her voice was strong and precise with a certain vulnerability to it, and her added drumming sections to most songs was welcomed. My highlight of the night? This love (will be your downfall).

And then Passion Pit. Jeez, these guys have energy! And it helped that the crowd was very much up for it! From start to finish I don’t think I stopped dancing and singing and smiling. This is one band that are actually way better live and I would kill to see them outdoors at a festival… There were no bad bits, it was all great – even the cheesy ‘the Irish are our favourite audience’ comments and the drummer in his Irish jersey. But my highlight was unpredictably Little Secrets.

Loved it loved it loved it!
