Cheryl Cole in woeful singing shocker!

The world can be a shocking place some times. First this week came the SHOCKING news that Ricky Martin was gay! I know right??! Unbelievable… And then I see the following video of Cheryl Cole SINGING LIVE on Live Lounge, and guess what – SHE CAN’T SING!!!!! I’m shocked to the core.

Like hairbands much??

My sister is obsessed with hairbands and head pieces. She’s like the Blair Waldorf of Dublin. The last time we were in New York she bought so many beautiful hairbands in Henri Bendel’s, she was on a first name basis with the staff who insisted on gift wrapping everything. She’s off holidaying at the moment but when she gets home I have to direct her straight to Aisling Maher’s site of bespoke headpieces.

Jónsi: a mini profile

Heard of Jónsi yet?? Well you will soon if you haven’t already!

Jónsi Birgisson is one of the acts announced for Electric Picnic that a lot of people are already freaking out about. I figured I would do a short profile on him, to introduce those who have yet to be enthralled – and it could serve as a helpful conversation piece once Festival Talk starts (as it inevitably does!) in the pub.

You probably already know Jónsi without realising it, as he is the guitarist/vocalist from Icelandic group Sigur Rós. Conveniently Sigur Rós are on a hiatus at the moment so Jónsi was free to explore his own musical path. Not that his sound veers too much from the sound of his band – he still sings in that wonderful falsetto and combines it with that ethereal, mysterious sound we are already familiar with. He does however sing in English for a change!

Over the rainbow: The Irish connection

Last Saturday on BBC we were treated to the 1st episode of ‘Over the Rainbow‘, the follow up to the hugely popular ‘I’d do anything…’, the latest TV talent show by Andrew Lloyd Webber. ‘Over the Rainbow’ will see 10 girls competing for the opportunity to play Dorothy in a new West End production of The Wizard of Oz.

Judges Sheila Hancock, Charlotte Church and John Partridge will tonight whittle 20 girls down to the final 10 who will go on to perform in the live shows from next week. And in tonight’s 20 there are 3 Irish ladies fighting for survival so here’s hoping we see them get through!

Katie Honan, 19, Waterford

Emma Warren, 20, Dublin

Philippa O’Hara, 23, Belfast

So will we see one of our own become the next Judy Garland? Tune in tonight and tomorrow night for the results!

This is also on TV3 but I think they are a week behind. How unsurprising…

This week I mostly loved… #2

The movie trailer: Inception

The video: Hot Chip, ‘I feel better’

The song: OK Go, ‘This too shall pass’ (the video for this song is also amazing!!)

The article: Today I’m wearing… in Vogue (This month it’s Rosie Huntington-Whiteley)

The event: Absolut Style @ Set weekend (Easter weekend, Kilkenny)

The clothes: Emmy Rossum in a Christian Siriano dress and silver Christian Louboutin sandals

The Hills no more….

MTV announced today that the upcoming season of The Hills will be the last. In the past 6 seasons we have seen friendships created and torn apart, scandal, sex tapes, teen Vogue closets, lots of product placement, tiny dogs, fashion fuelled trips to Paris, marriage and alcohol addiction. And this final season plans to build on that! According to Adam DiVello, the creator, this season will follow Heidi as she unveils her new post-surgery face and body to her mom, Kristin as she deals with those rumours about drug abuse, Stephanie’s struggle with sobriety, and Audrina’s new boyf Ryan Cabrera. I wonder will golden girl Lauren Conrad return to say goodbye to the show that officially propelled her into the limelight….

At first glance, it looks like the EP gang are attempting to get back to their heyday of 2007, with a mix of the old, the new and the obscure. It seems more like they are back to aiming this festival at people in their late 20′s/30′s which is great. And I like the Irish aspect to it – I expect The Frames will be a big draw! If they announce a couple more great acts then this could be somewhat close to justifying the €240 ticket price…
